Review: Lush Let The Good Times Roll (Maisenza).

We all know I'm a bit of a cleanser junkie, cleansers are just my favorite skincare products to buy, test, use; Lush Let The Good Times Roll was released in the 2012 Lush Christmas collection, everyone was so enthusiastic about it, and it sounded such an amazing product since the first reviews appeared online. In Italy it was the most discussed product when it was discontinued at the end of the Christmas period, and I was just so angry with myself for not buying it immediately (I always found it sold out, and since Lush boutiques are not anywhere near me, it was a bit of a struggle finding it). Lush made it reappear on the market last Christmas, which made me very happy since I read the first rumors about it being still avaiable but also meant to be included in the permanent line. Since I wasn't sure, I went ahead and bought three jar of it during my first Lush trip this Christmas, so that even if it would have been sold out soon or discontinued, I'd had a good stock. Luckly it is a permanent product right now, because I almost finished my stock and I'm so in love that I couldn't live without it anymore. Don't even know how could I live without before, don't ask me.

Sappiamo tutti che sono un po' ossessionata dai detergenti, i cleanser sono la mia tipologia di prodotto preferito da compare, testare e usare; Lush Let The Good Times Roll/ Maisenza fu lanciato nella collezione natalizia del 2012 la prima volta, e tutti erano così entusiasti che sin dalle prime recensioni apparse online sembrava un prodotto fantastico. Si è discusso molto quando Lush ha annunciato che fosse un'edizione limitata e che non si sarebbe quindi più visto dopo il periodo natalizio, e io mi sono arrabbiata con me stessa per non averlo acquistato subito (lo trovavo sempre esaurito, e dato che le botteghe Lush non sono esattamente affianco a casa mia, era un po' impossibile trovarlo). Lush l'ha fatto riapparire per la gioia di tutti nella collezione del Natale appena passato, che mi ha reso molto felice sia quando ho saputo del suo ritorno, sia quando sono iniziate a girare voci sul fatto che sarebbe entrato in permanente. Dato che non ero sicura ne ho comprate ben tre jar al primo turno di shopping da Lush, così che sia nel caso si esaurisse, sia che fosse invece un edizione limitata, avessi comunque avuto una buona scorta. Fortunatamente è al momento nella linea permanente, perchè altrimenti, dato che sto finendo l'ultima jar e che ne sono innamorata, non so come potrei vivere. E no, non chiedetemi nemmeno come allora vivevo prima di provarlo, non ne ho idea.

Lush Let The Good Times Roll (Maisenza was its italian name, which I liked best, it means "never without", (mai = never, senza = without) cute because it contained the word mais (= corn, maize) which is its main ingredient - now they're changing products name in Italy, from italian to english) is a maize flour based cleanser in a paste form. It's made out of maize flour and polenta, a great mixture to give your skin a good amount of gentle exfoliation everyday, to removes dead skin, cells and all those bad smog and makeup residues on your face at the end of the day. However I love using it as a morning cleanser, it really helps achieving a smooth skin texture, leaving it clean and soft, and... smelling deliciously. I'd say its bigger fault is making me hungry everytime I use it, but seriously this product has the best smell ever: it's described as a cake scent, however I would say it's a mixture between cake paste not baked yet, buttery pop corns and a bit of spicy cookies in the oven. Hungry? You'll be more when smelling it, I assure you. Its scent is definitely the one first thing that make you think you need it in your life when you're still in a Lush boutique deciding on what to buy. And you'll take home with you surely, but it's actually the loveliest product ever too. Also, used in the morning, its scent really makes me in a good mood, which is always a plus.

To use it you're meant to take a little bit of the paste in your hands and soften it up with a few drops of warm water, then simply apply it to your face and massage it in. The only care needed is to not take a lot of product out of the jar in one time, always be over a sink, and also do not overdo while adding water, since it could became a bit messy and you could loose a bit of the product if you're not careful.
It contains cinnamon and talc to stimulate your skin and reduce redness too, and yes, if you're lucky you can find some real pop corns in it, which also help in the exfoliating action. It's never too harsh, but very gentle instead, so you can't be afraid of using it everyday. Someone think it's pretty hydrating and suits even the driest skins in wintertime, however I better find it helps reduce oiliness from my combination-to-oily skin. I started using it back in October when my skin was still in its oiliest fase with the summer residues not abbandoning it, and I loved using it twice a day, morning and evening, to help my skin coming back to normality. When winter came, my skin started to face its driest fase and I reduced the Let The Good Times Roll dose to once a day in the morning because I felt like my skin was too dry to bear with it twice a day, and since then it has a permanent place in my morning skincare routine. It's good in removing makeup too, but when I use it in the evening I rather prefer using a makeup remover or a micellar water to remove the majority of my makeup, and then go ahaed with Let The Good Times Roll as a proper cleanser to deeply clean my skin and remove every little makeup residue. Lastly but not at least, everytime I use it my skin looks better, more radiant and glowy, its softer and smoother. Oh, dear Let The Good Times Roll, would you marry me?

Lush Let The Good Times Roll, che ora non ha più il suo nome italiano MAISenza (che a me piaceva molto di più), è un impasto a base di farina di mais e polenta fatto a cleanser. I suoi due ingredienti principali gli conferiscono un'azione esfoliante non troppo abrasiva ideale per ogni giorno, rimuovono le cellule e la pelle morta, insieme a tutti i residui di smog e makeup che si sono accumulati durante la giornata. Nonostante ciò, a me piace usarlo come detergente mattutino, aiuta a raggiungere una texture levigata, lasciando la pelle pulita e soffice e... con un profumo delizioso. Direi appunto che il suo più grande difetto è quello di farmi venir fame ogni volta che lo uso, ma davvero, ha il profumo più buono che esista: è descritto come un profumo di torta, ma io lo paragonerei piuttosto all'impasto di una torta non ancora cotto, assieme al tipico profumo di pop corn al burro, il tutto condito dal profumo che esce dal forno mentre si stanno cucinando dei biscotti speziati. Vi è venuta fame? Questo non è niente in confronto alla tentazione di mangiarvi Maisenza una volta annusato, ve lo assicuro. Il suo profumo è decisamente una delle prime cose che ti fa pensare di aver bisogno di lui nella tua vita quando sei ancora nella bottega Lush a decidere cosa acquistare. E te lo porterai a casa di certo, ma non solo il profumo è delizioso, ma anche il prodotto in sé è uno dei migliori che abbia provato. Inoltre usarlo al mattino con quel profumino adorabile mi mette sempre di buon umore, che non può che essere buona cosa.

Per usarlo bisogna prelevarne una piccola dose tra le mani e ammorbidirlo con alcune gocce d'acqua calda, poi semplicemente applicarlo massaggiandolo sul viso. Le uniche precauzioni da prendere sono di non prelevare troppo prodotto in una volta, sempre essere sopra a un lavandino, e inoltre non eccedere con l'aggiunta dell'acqua, dato che potrebbe diventare un pasticcio e si potrebbe perdere gran parte del prodotto se non si sta attenti.
Contiene anche cannella e talco per stimolare la pelle e ridurre leggermente i rossori, e sì, se siete fortuniati potete trovarci anche dei veri pop corn, che sono perlopiù decorativi, ma aiutano anche nell'azione esfoliante. Non è mai troppo abrasivo, ma invece è molto delicato, così che non si debba aver paura o preoccupazioni a usarlo ogni giorno. Qualcuno dice di trovarlo idratante e che possa essere adatto anche alle pelli secche in inverno, però a me è piaciuto particolamente sulla mia pelle mista perchè trovo che aiuti a ridurne l'oleosità. Ho iniziato ad usarlo ad ottobre quando la mia pelle era ancora nella fase più grassa trascinandosi dietro i residui dell'estate, e mi piaceva parecchio usarlo due volte al giorno, mattina e sera, per aiutare la pelle a tornare alla normalità. Quando è arrivato l'inverno, la mia pelle ha iniziato ad affrontare la sua fase più secca, e io ho diminuito le dosi di Maisenza a una volta al giorno, dato che sentivo come se due volte fossero un po' troppo, e da allora ha un suo posto fisso nella mia skincare routine mattutina. E' anche in grado di rimuovere il makeup se si vuole, ma quando lo uso di sera di solito preferisco usare uno struccante o un'acqua micellare prima per rimuovere il grosso, e solo dopo andare di Maisenza come un vero e proprio cleanser per pulire a fondo la pelle e rimuovere gli ultimi residui di makeup. Ultimo, ma non per importanza, ogni volta che lo uso la mia pelle appare visibilmente migliore, più radiosa e luminosa, più soffice e levigata. Oh caro Maisenza, vuoi sposarmi?

Yes, that's me smelling it... ehm.

As every Lush product its INCI (picture below) is very clean, which makes the whole thing ever nicer: it's always pleasant to find a good product with a green ingredients list, you know. Don't forget it's vegetarian and vegan, and obviously Lush never testes on animals. You can find Let The Good Times Roll in every Lush boutique and on the Lush online shop all year around, since now, as I said, it has its own place in the permanent line; it's avaible in two different sizes, 100g for 6,35£ and 250g for 15,87£, but I would suggest to go for the 100g one, for two simple reasons: it has a PAO of only two or three months since it contains fresh ingredients and no preservatives, and unless you're 100% sure you'll use the whole 250g jar in that time, you're better buy two of the 100g jars (maybe not in the same time) and use them within their deadline. Little digression: if you don't live exactly near a Lush shop and buying Lush products make you do a long trip or an online order, you should buy multiple of them, since you can put them in your freezer to delay the deadline, and take it out when you finished the open one on your skincare shelf. I can assure the freshness of the ingredient will be preserved and even the smell will be as beautiful as when you bought it. Second of all, Lush has its kind of back to Lush iniziative to bring back to their shops 5 of their black jars (including the Let The Good Times Roll ones) to obtain a fresh mask in exchange, so if you buy two of the little one instead of one of the bigger, you'll be one step closer to a brand new fresh mask in your stash. Also the bigger jar price it's not convenient at all, so you have no excuses! 

Come ogni prodotto Lush che si rispetti ha un INCI (foto sotto) pulitissimo, che rende il tutto anche più piacevole: è sempre un piacere trovare un buon prodotto con una lista ingredienti verde, o no?! Da non dimenticare che è anche vegetariano e vegano, e ovviamente Lush non testa mai sugli animali. Potete trovare Maisenza in ogni bottega Lush e sul loro sito web tutto l'anno, dato che ora, come dicevo, ha finalmente il suo posto nella linea permanente; è disponibile in due differenti taglie, quella da 100g per 9,50€ e quella da 240g  a 22,80€, ma consiglierei di acquistare quella da 100g per due semplici ragioni:  il PAO è di soli due/tre mesi dato che contiene ingredienti freschi e nessun conservante, e a meno che non siate al 100% sicure di finire l'intera jar da 250g in quel periodo di tempo, è meglio acquistare un paio di jar da 100g (magari non nella stessa volta) e usarle prima della scadenza. Piccola parentesi: se non vivete vicino a una bottega Lush e acquistare i loro prodotti può portarvi a fare un lungo viaggio o un ordine online, conviene ordinarne immediatamente più di uno, dato che si possono senza problemi congelare in freezer, e poi tirarli fuori quando si ha terminato la jar aperta sul vostro scaffale. Assicuro che la freschezza degli ingredienti viene mantenuta tale, e anche il profumo sarà delizioso come appena comprato. Secondo, Lush ha il suo back to Lush, l'iniziativa per cui riportando 5 vasetti neri (incluso quello di Maisenza) nei loro negozi si ottiene in cambio una maschera fresca gratis, quindi se comprate due jar piccole invece che una grande, sarete ad un passo più vicine ad ottenere una nuova maschera per la vostra collezione. Inoltre la confezione grande non ha un prezzo per niente conveniente, quindi non avete scuse!

The price to me it's reasonable, maybe would be better if a bit lower, but considering I use up one little jar in a month and a half or more, and all the ingredients are green and good, and it's handmade, and all those good stuff, I would say it's ok to me paying that quote. It's really one of the best skincare product I've found in a while and by far my favorite Lush product, so I highly recommend it to you all, whether your skin is oily, normal or dry; it suits every demands, seriously.

Il prezzo a mio avviso è ragionevole, certo farebbe piacere se costasse un po' meno, ma considerando che finisco uno dei vasetti piccoli in un mese e mezzo o più, e che tutti gli ingredienti sono naturali e verdi, che è fresco e fatto a mano e tutte quelle buone cose, per me pagare quella quota non è un problema. E' davvero uno dei migliori prodotti di skincare provati da tempo, e sicuramente il mio prodotto Lush preferito finora, quindi lo consiglio vivamente a tutte voi, sia che la vostra pelle sia grassa, mista, normale o secca; ha una risposta a tutte le esigenze, davvero!
