Review: TheBalm Instain Long Wearing Blush in Swiss Dot.

Since I have such a pale and plain face, one of my main makeup problems is always been how to make my blush stay on my cheeks all day long. I tried everything, from powder to cream blushes, but nothing lasted more than 5/6 hours on me. For this reason, when these TheBalm blushes came out, I just couldn't say no to them. There's such a good range of gorgeous colors, that it was so difficult to choose which one I wanted; in the end I went for Swiss Dot, the type of color I always wear the most. My only worry was that, since it was in a color I use a lot, I may could have had another blush in the same shade, but luckly I didn't.

Dato che ho una pelle molto chiara e un colorito piuttosto smorto, uno dei miei principali problemi cosmetici è sempre stato come far resistere il blush sulle guance per parecchie ore. Ho provato un po' di tutto, dai prodotti in polvere a quelli cremosi, ma niente è mai durato più di 5/6 ore su di me. Per questa ragione, quando questi blush TheBalm uscirono, non sono proprio riuscita a resistervi. C'è una così vasta disponibilità di meravigliosi colori, che è stato davvero difficile fare una sola scelta; alla fine ho optato per Swiss Dot, la tipologia di colore che indosso da sempre più spesso. La mia unica preoccupazione era se, dato che questo è il colore che uso di più, avessi già nel mio cassetto un altro blush troppo simile o identico, ma fortunatamente non è così.

TheBalm Instain Long Wearing Blushes are meant to be, as the name suggests,  really long wearing powder blushes; as I said, they have an amazing range of shades for everyone tastes, and I think each one of them is beautiful in an different way. Also they have a cute packaging which just makes you want to buy it immediately: every shade has a different packaging which reminds of the color inside. They have a beautiful silky and powder-but-not-too-powdery texture, which allows you to apply it easily, without worrying about looking fake or not that natural: it seems to melt into your skin and becaming part of it, in fact they are super comfortable to wear.

I TheBalm Instain Long Wearing Blushes sono pensati per essere, come il nome suggerisce, dei blush che durano molte ore sul viso; come ho detto, è presente una vasta quantità di sfumature per ogni gusto, e trovo che, almeno dalle foto viste online, ognuno di essi sia bello a modo suo. Inoltre hanno un packaging carinssimo, che ti mette voglia di aquistarli tutti: ogni tonalità ha un packaging diverso che ricorda il colore all'interno. Hanno una texture setosa e, anche se si tratta di blush in polvere, non sono troppo polverosi, il che consente di applicare il prodotto facilmente, senza preoccuparsi che esso risulti finto o poco naturale sul viso: sembra fondersi con la pelle e diventarne parte integrante, infatti sono super confortevoli da indossare.

Swiss Dot is a beautiful pink shade, with an orange undertone, which make the color looks almost coraly, with that bit of warmness in it that gives to your face such a gorgeous and healthy look. It is in the category of colors I wear the most, because I really like looking awake and healthy in the morning; having a bit of warm color on my cheeks, helps a lot to achieve a glowy look. 

This shade, according to my opinion, breaks every skintone's pattern of colors: being a warm color it should look good only on people who owns a cool undertone, but I actually have a warm undertone and on me it looks amazing anyway, and not only that, I seriously think this category of color is my perfect one. I'm really pale, and I admit I like the Snow White look, and for this purpose it is simply amazing.

Swiss Dot è una bellissima tonalità di rosa, con un sottotono sull'arancio, che lo rende tendente al corallo, con quella punta di colore caldo che dona immediatamente al viso un colorito sano e vivo. E' la categoria di colore che indosso di più sulle guance, principalmente perchè mi piace molto come questi colori ravvivino il viso già alle sei del mattino; avere quella punta calda di colore sulle guance, mi aiuta a raggiungere un look radioso.
Questa tonalità, secondo me, rompe qualsiasi schema di colori e sottotono preconfezionato (non che io abbia mai creduto a nessuno di questi, o che consigli mai di consultarli): essendo un colore caldo dovrebbe star bene principalmente sui sottotoni freddi, ma in realtà io ho un sottotono rosato e su di me sta da dio comunque, e non solo, penso seriamente che questa categoria di colore sia la perfezione per il mio incarnato. Sono molto pallida, e ammetto di amare il look "Biancaneve", e per questo proposito, Swiss Dot è semplicemente fantastico.

But let's move on to the interesting and fun stuff: is this blush long wearing as they say? For real?

Well, I can say my cheeks have never ever tried such a long wearing blush. After a few tests I could see it lasts all the ten hours it says on the packaging, but not only that! The majority of the times I can wear it on 6 am and going out all day, and when I come back home on 5 pm, it is still there. Just a few days ago I could ascertain that at 9 pm it was still there: obviously it loose a bit of its intensity it has in the morning, but the staining power is seriously amazing. Unfortunately it didn't pass the "boyfriend test", but no other makeup product did it, except a waterproof mascara!

Also, when it starts to fade a bit, it goes away without leaving bad-looking patches of color here and there. It simply loose a bit of pigmentation, but still looks really natural on the skin. I can't say enough good things about it, seriously!

I would say it behaves as a stain (it's called instain): when you apply it you can notice it could be a bit difficult to blend it out if you leave it on your cheeks for a few minutes before the blending action: that's because it stains your cheeks to have a beautiful long wearing powder.

Ma passiamo alle cose interessanti e divertenti: questo blush dura davvero quanto dicono? 
Be', diciamo che le mie guance non hanno mai provato in vita loro un blush più long wearing di questo. Dopo un po' di test, ho potuto constatare che dura tutte le dieci ore citate sul packaging senza alcun problema, ma non solo! La maggior parte delle volte posso indossarlo alle sei del mattino, uscire tutto il giorno, e, quando torno alle cinque del pomeriggio, lui è ancora lì. Giusto qualche giorno fa ho potuto appurare che alle nove di sera era ancora visibile: chiaramente dopo tante ore perde d'intensità rispetto al mattino appena applicato, ma in ogni caso è fantastico averlo ancora sul viso dopo una sedicina di ore! Sfortunatamente non ha passato il "test fidanzato", ma a suo favore posso dire che nessun prodotto di makeup c'è mai riuscito a parte il mascara waterproof.
Inoltre, quando inizia a sbiadire, va via in modo abbastanza uniforme senza lasciare antiestetiche macchie di colore. Semplicemente inizia a perdere la sua pigmentazione originaria, ma continua a risultare naturale sulla pelle. Non posso dirne abbastanza belle cose, davvero!
Direi che si comporta come una tinta (è chiamato instain mica per nulla): quando lo si applica si nota come può risultare un po' difficile da sfumare se non lo si fa molto velocemente: questo perchè tinge le guance per avere una durata a dir poco perfetta e incredibile.

I swatched it near some other blushes in similar shades I own, which I thought the majority of you could have or have swatched once at least. Near Kiko Pure Pleasure Creamy Blush in 03 Unttamed Coral it shows its pink tone: you may see it and think it's totally a coral, but actually its base color is a pretty warm pink. Of course it have a hint of coral in it, and you can see it from how softer is than the Urban Decay Afterglow Cheek Tint in Bang, which actually is a pure and sheer red. The most similar is the H&M Blusher in Dazzling Peach (which I don't really see as a peach color), but the H&M one is softer in intensity and lighter in color, and also has some shimmers in it, which are totally absent in the TheBalm Instain long Wearing Blush in Swiss Dot, a perfectly matte shade.

L'ho swatchato vicino ad altri blush in una colorazione simile, che ho pensato la maggior parte di voi può aver visto, posseduto o swatchato almeno una volta. Vicino al Kiko Pure Pleasure Creamy Blush in 03 Unttamed Coral mostra il suo tono rosato: vedendolo si potrebbe pensare che sia un corallo punto e stop, ma in realtà il suo colore di base è un bel rosa caldo. Certo, ha una punta di corallo e questo è ovvio, e lo si nota benissimo vedendo come è più soft rispetto al Urban Decay Afterglow Cheek Tint in Bang, che invece è un rosso puro sheer. Il più simile è il H&M Blusher in Dazzling Peach (che io penso abbia poco del pesca), ma il blush H&M è più leggero nell'intensità e più chiaro nel colore, e inoltre contiene un po' di perlescenza e shimmer, che sono invece completamente assenti nel TheBalm Instain long Wearing Blush in Swiss Dot, che è invece completamente opaco.

The swatches you see where made with only a coat of product, which make you understand how much it's pigmented. I already said what I think about blushes' pigmentation in this post, but if I have to summarize it here, I would say pigmentation is not always a good thing, expecially when it comes to blushes. You risk to look like a clown if you apply a super pigmented blush like this, without the right forethoughts. First things first, you have to apply it with a medium (in dimensions) brush, because too big brushes will cover your face of color and it will be almost impossible to fix it, otherwise a too little brush would make everything too difficult, because, as I said, this blush behaves as a stain, this means you have to be pretty quick in applying it to blend it well and avoid bad patches of color here and there. A medium brush is the solution, and for this purpose I like to use the Real Techinques Contour Brush (my favorite from the Real Techniques Core Collection Set) because its dimension is perfect for place the color where you really want to, and also it helps to blend everything really easily.
Second of all, you have to use a very light hand when you take the blush on your brush and apply it on the skin, because you want a natural result and not a ready-for-circus one.
I generally prefer sheerer blushes because you don't have to worry about looking like a clown and having a precise application, because you can easily fix it later or, in general, modulate the color to the perfect intensity. That's why I think this blush is a bit too pigmented for my tastes; it's seriously its only lack. But of course you can simply solve it with a bit of attentions in the application; but remember, it's not a blush to be applied on your face in the dark of 6 am (say yes to caffeine!).

Gli swatch che vedete sono stati fatti con una sola passata di prodotto, che fa capire quanto sia pigmentato. Ho già espresso la mia opinione riguardo alla pigmentazione dei blush in questo post, ma se devo sintetizzarla qui, direi semplicemente che un'alta pigmentazione non è per forza una buona cosa, soprattutto se si tratta di blush. Si rischia l'effetto clown che è proprio dietro l'angolo quando si applica un blush super pigmentato senza le giuste accortezze. Prima di tutto a mio parere, per applicare al meglio questo blush, si ha bisogno di un pennello di medie dimensioni, perchè un pennello troppo grosso potrebbe render semplice applicare il blush dove non lo si desidera, che sarebbe complicato poi da nascondere, invece un pennello troppo piccolo può rendere tutto più complicato, perchè, come ho detto, questo blush si comporta come una tinta, che significa che bisogna essere abbastanza svelti a sfumarlo per non ottenere macchie di colore disconnesse. Un pennello di medie dimensioni è quindi la soluzione, e a questo scopo io utilizzo il Real Techinques Contour Brush (il mio preferito dal Real Techniques Core Collection Set) perchè la sua dimenzione è l'ideale per applicare il colore dove davvero lo si desidera, e inoltre aiuta a sfumare il tutto al meglio e facilmente.
Seconda cosa, si deve davvero avere una mano leggera quando si preleva questo blush con il pennello e lo si applica, perchè è molto pigmentato, ma si vuole un risultato comunque naturale e non "pronti-per-il-circo".
Generalmente preferisco blush sheer piuttosto che così pigmentati, perchè non ho da preoccuparmi di non sembrare un clown o dedicarmi ad un'applicazione più precisa, perchè comunque la si può sistemare in seguito, o in generale, si può modulare il colore fino all'intensità che si desidera. Questo è il motivo per cui questo blush è un po' troppo pigmentato per i miei gusti; seriamente, questo è il suo unico difetto. Ma chiaramente è qualcosa di risolvibile con un po' di attenzioni nell'applicazione; importante è però ricordarsi, che questo non è un blush da applicare con gli occhi chiusi alle 6 del mattino (via con la caffeina!).

There're 5.5g/0.2OZ of product, for a price of 18£, which in general is a bit over my budget for a blush, but I just love it and have to suggest it anyway for everyone and every budget. I think it's an investment in a good blush, and you won't regret the choise of spending your money to buy it instead of to other blushes half-price.

Contiene 5,5g di prodotto, per un prezzo di 22,50€, che in generale è un po' sopra il mio budget per un blush, ma semplicemente lo adoro, e devo suggerirlo davvero a tutte, qualsiasi sia il vostro budget. Penso sia un buon investimento in un ottimo blush, e sicuramente non vi pentireste di aver speso soldi per acquistarlo, piuttosto che prendere due altri blush qualsiasi a metà di questo prezzo. 
In Italia, almeno che io sappia, non si possono ancora trovare in negozi fisici, che è un peccato perchè non si possono swatchare e ammirare dal vivo prima dell'acquisto, ma si possono acquistare dal santo subito nostro amato Feelunique, che tra l'altro offre spesso sconti agli iscritti alla newsletter, che può far comodo se il prezzo di questo prodotto dovesse essere sopra il vostro budget.
