Best of 2013 - Skincare & Co.

Last week I talked about my makeup favorites of the whole past year, and I promised you I'd have written another post for the series: this is the time of sharing my skincare, body care and others favorites of 2013. The past year was the year of skincare discovering to me, I finally understood how important taking care of my skin is, and I became a bit obsesses with skincare products, so much that they're pretty much the main thing I get so excited in buying; I love trying out skincare products, and you maybe have already understood it by the quantity of skincare post I write on the blog. Better saying I went a bit skincare products crazy in 2013 and I just enjoyed a lot picking up my favorites from the bunch! Here they are.

Firstly let's talk about cleansers: I think the cleansing step is the most important in a skincare routine, because it's necessary to remove every little bit of nastiness your skin could have accumulated during the day, whether is makeup or smog, whether you went out or stay in bed all day. I tried a lot of cleansers in 2013, it's the category of products I love the most, but only two of them are really trustworthy: the first one is the well noted and pluri-mentioned here on this blog Emma Hardie Amazing Face Lift and Sculpt Moringa Cleansing Balm (28,90£), which is super expensive (but it is on sale on feelunique right now) but super luxurious too. It's the most moisturizing thing your dehydrated winter skin could ever imagine, a thick oily balm to use as an evening cleanser, or even better as a moisturizing face mask. The second one is Lush Let The Good Times Roll (6,35£), a completely different cleanser, made from natural ingredients, helps to gently exfoliate the skin while deeply cleansing and removing every little bit of makeup. It is pretty amazing to me, mainly because it helps a lot in soak up skin oil back in, without dry your skin out, perfect for combination skins like mine.
Toner is became one of the most important steps to me, it could seem pointless and a waste of time, but if you choose the right one for your skin type, it could have the best long distance results: to me and my uber sensitive skin, after trying a few different typology of products, I finally came across the one I'll surely love for a long time, the La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water Spray (5,60£), probably the lighter thing you can use as a toner, perfect for sensitive and problematic skins, it does the job beautifully without being aggressive. I find toners in general are the type of products more difficult to combine with my skin, but this thermal water never caused problems, it's simply so lovely and refreshing that you can't not enjoy the toner step. Also it's a pretty multipurpose products, it lends itself beautifully to be used either as a toner or to prep your skin for cleanser or exfoliator, everything really. Plus you don't necessary need a cotton pad to use it, since you can spray it directly on your face and you're done!
Talking about moisturizers, I have to say I'm not came across the perfect night cream for my skin yet, but for daytime I'm loving the Neve Cosmetics Crema Eterea (9,50€) since this summer, a day cream thought for combination to oily skins, smelling like vanilla, all natural and vegan, that sink into the skin quite easily, so perfect to be applied before makeup for a light dose of hydration. However the best in healing my atopic skin problem around the eyes and lips, it's definitely been the A-Derma Exomega D.E.F.I. Emmolient cream (8,39£), which I apply directly and only in the interested zones; it's thought for dry and atopic skins, also perfect for eczema or similar problems, which unluckily I have too. It's thick and super dense, a bit difficult to blend, but seriously the best in healing every dry patches you have; it also lasts for ever.
I love face masks, but actually I haven't tried a lot of them this past year, only a few, but the one that I'm loving all the time is absolutely the REN F10 Smooth and Reniew Peel Mask (20£), of which I only have a little travel size, but it's lasting a lot of months anyway. I talked a lot about it, its proprieties and its amazing scent, but all you have to know is that this mask is perfect for every season, it knows how to be hydrating, but never too much, and how to donate a lovely radiant skin glow in the same time. It's lovely and I'll definitely buy the full size as soon as I'll be done with the travel one. However I heard it could possibly have been discontinued recently, which would be a complete shame, and I hope it's not!

To conclude with the skincare theme, I wanted to mention the The Body Shop Honeymania Lip Balm (4£)* as favorite lip balm of the year; and yes, even if I said I didn't love it that much at first, I definitely change my mind on this and find it so hydrating and, ehm, delicious to taste too (it's bad I love eating my lip balms, I know, but sometimes simply happens). It smells like honey, and has beeswax in it, and when it comes to honey on the lips, I'm always sold!
Finally body care: I was introduced to this world only recently too, I didn't love body products before, but let's just say the italian & Other Stories store, and all the lovely products and scent in it, definitely helped me to get into body care as well. I don't have a lot of favorites right now, even if I tried a few stuff actually, but one I definitely loved is the & Other Stories Sugar Crush Body Scrub (7£), a thick, with big grains and sugar based body scrub, which smells absolutely delicious, citrusy and sugary, and scrubs like no others. I love using it under the shower, since, being a sugar scrub, it melts into the water and doesn't leave any grains on the shower floor that need to be clean as other scrubs do; plus it's super exfoliant, and that's what I always need. For hydration I have to mention my beloved Steamcream (12,95£): discovered only this summer by me, it's not new on the natural skincare market. I love the lavander scent, but the tins are the most adorable thing of all, and I want so many of their designs, ah. It's a light moisturizing cream, perfect for every skin type and an everyday hydration, that sinks into the skin so easly and helps a lot to solve dry skin problems. It's also a multi-functional product, you can use it on your body or on your face and hands, and I love mixing it with other products or ingredient for a hydrating sunday face mask, which is always a plus.
