Spring Morning Skincare Routine

I never properly updated my skincare routine before now on this blog, but recently I added some new products I'm loving to my routine and my skin is definitely benefiting from it as it looks everyday more cleaner, brighter and healthy. So I thought I could share my new morning skincare routine very spring appropriate, underlining as always that my skin type is combination maily on the oilier side, but at this time of the year with winter weather just left behind, I suffer of some bad eczema and dry patches concerns on my face I need to take care of. With my skincare routine I try to look for either something that helps me in staying on top of my acne and spots issues, but also very hydrating products for those areas where my skin suffers of dryness and dehydration; plus my skin is very sensitive so I also try to stay away from anything agressive preferring gentle products over anything else.

I know I've nominated this product over and over again this past few days but I'm seriously impressed and it took its place in my routine as soon as I tried it for the first time as I never had anything similar. The Superfacialist Rose Miracle Makeover Facial Oil (£9,99) is the first thing I apply on my face in the morning: it's a pre-cleanse oil that features avocado and carrots oils and an intense (maybe too much) floral rose scent, you are supposed to rub between your hands and then apply all over your face in circular motion. I take this step pretty seriously and think of it as an opportuinity to have a little facial massage every single morning, which is super good for my skin but also very relaxing, and allows me to focus on super dry areas as well to give them some instant relief and a good nourishment. I wipe it away with the Pai Muslin Face Cloth (£3,09) damped with super hot water in order to get rid of the oil but also gently and lightly exfoliate my skin in the meanwhile as this cloth is sligthly rough and really helps in getting rid of dead skin. You may think (as I used to) every muslin cloth is actually the same and you don't need to invest in a new one, but I tried some others and this Pai offering is definitely my favorite as it's the best in my opinion in keeping the heat inside so it helps in opening your pores during the process and prepare your skin to the cleanser step.

Indeed I can't figure out how to make the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish's hot cloth work on me, since it's a bit less rough than the Pai one so a bit more gentle, but it never keeps the heat inside and no matter how hot is the water, when I rub it onto my face it always feels cold. I guess I'm not a fan of the Polish whereas I'm definitely in love with the Cleanse: I only have a little sample now but I may need to stock up pretty soon to a full size bottle as this is the more gentle and nicer cream cleanser I ever tried; enriched with rosemary, eucalyptus oil, chamomile extract and cocoa butter, this cleanser is very lightweight and really helps in getting rid of impurities while keeping the cleanse step very simple and gentle but effective. I like it in the morning better since in the evening I love more hydrating and oily products, but in the first hours of my days this simple pick really makes a great way to wake your skin up with a fresh rosemary scent and a gentle cleanse. I don't ever use the matching hot cloth or any other muslin cloth with it as I've already used it before the cleanser step and my skin doesn't need to be stressed again, so I just rinse my face with warm water and lightly dab my actual flannel all over it before the toner step. And for toner I'm rediscovering the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Astringent Micro-Exfoliant Lotion (£8) as I feel my skin likes a chemical exfoliation better than a manual one when it comes to my face, and this toner is thought to purify and refresh your skin while giving it a new refined texture. It contains a mix of BHAs that are really great for skin on the oilier side since they are purifying and help with sebum regulation, plus are great to exfoliate your skin very gradually and unblock clogged pores. This applied every morning with a cotton pad, thanks to its astringent properties, helps a lot in descreasing pores sizes, which is always been a huge concern of mine.

As for serum I keep my hydrating ones for the evening whereas I choose something that can help in keeping my oily skin at bay in the morning to avoid shiny skin showing through my makeup and in general to add a little acne and spot treatment in my routine. For this purpose my love for the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo (£10,33) is never been a secret, and I'm sticking to it pretty religiously nowadays as I found out it really makes my skin look better and cleaner from spots and acne concerns if I apply it at least once a day, instead if I stop using it - as I did at the beginning of this month for only one week - my skin comes back to its usual annoying activities with all what comes with it such as blemishes, blackheads and similars. I like to focus this serum on the oilier areas of my face like my T-zone, my chin, my jawline and around my nose, as those are the areas where I get spots more often, but I don't need it on my cheeks or on any area close to my eyes or my lips as those are the places where I get dry patches and I don't really want to apply anything there that's not super hydrating. This serum contains LHAs as well and Salicydic acid which are my biggest allies in the fight against acne and spots, it aims to exfoliate over clogged pores while acting against blemishes, and it does exactly what it says.

Hydration to me is very important and if you have combination or oily skins you should really remember your moisturizer too since you can get dehydrated skin as well, and I wrote and entire post about my picks to fight dehydration here, but in the morning my main concern is to reach for lightweight and quick in sinking in products that would make a great base for my makeup. The Aveeno Cream (£4,66) is a super cheap drugstore find that really suits my needs when it comes to moisturizing my skin in the morning, containing oatmeal and being paraben free is great for every skin type that needs hydration and dryness prevention and expecially good for sensitive skins too. It sinks in easly and effortlessly leaving a soft texture to your skin and a good hydration reserve for your day to come. As for eye cream I'm loving the Botanics 80% Organic Hydrating Eye Cream (£5,99) which is healing my dry patches problem all around my eyes in just a few weeks and I can't be more grateful for that as having dry skin around my eyes was the most annoying thing that was going on for years onto my face. This features a mix of natural oils such as sweet almond, olive and rosehip oils, to help in achieving a more radiant skin around your eyes, fighting fine lines, but also deeply hydrating your skin from the inside.

This is all I use on a daily basis in my morning skincare routine and I'm planning to stick to these miracle worker products untill summertime comes as this routine is very appropriate for the spring weather. All these products work pretty well together creating a good match for my combination and sensitive skin which obviously is one of the most difficult when it comes to find a routine that can suit its necessities as it can be oily or dry at the same time. Sticking to a routine is something strange to me as I never came even close to a proper routine I entirely loved in the past, so I'm always switching things up a bit to find the perfect products, but with this one I'm sticking to for a while and I'm now very satisfied. I can't say the same thing for my evening skincare routine because, though I've found some lovely products, I'm still switching up things now and again to find my perfect routine - so for that one you may need to wait a bit more.
